Abstract ( Traffic engineering)

This paper gives an overview of the methods and models used in the Traffic engineering .
The first main topic is traffic engineering over a X voice network. This networks is a five step process. It consists of
* collecting the existing voice traffic data
* categorizing the traffic by groups
* determining the number of trunks required to meet the traffic
* determining the proper mix
* converting the number of erlangs of traffic to packets or cells per second.
The second main topic is the four basic assumptions in traffic engineering. This includes potential sources, Traffic arrival characteristics, calculate the number of physical trunks required and trunk allocation.
This paper concludes with an fourth and final assumption that centers around the switching equipment.
